– Turkana Album 4 –
On an afternoon in July 2014 two women − Emeri Lowasa and Alice Nakeno − make a clay pot together in Nakurio, central Turkana.
As the pot slowly takes shape, interested spectators from nearby homesteads begin to accumulate around the activity area. The growing audience of bystanders watch intently and question the potters about their work.
With the initial objective of documenting the many stages involved in the intricate process that leads to the creation of a single Turkana pot, this series of photographs begins shortly after clay was collected from the nearby Kerio River and concludes with the final decoration being administered to the vessel with a twig from a thorn bush.
